The first is to restrict the rules. Too many rules lead to frustrated children who constantly encounter obstacles. So limit yourself to a few basic principles that are easy to understand, such as biting, kicking, or not hitting anyone unless you`re for self-defense. It depends on the situation you find yourself in and where you want to go. His main premise is to take full responsibility, which I am a fan of, but I personally find that he neglects the aspect of being gentle and caring with himself and connecting with his emotions. If you`re looking for a quick fix to feel more motivated and need practical advice, go for it. If you really want to make profound changes in your life that last because you have trauma, I wouldn`t recommend it. It is also better suited for less sensitive readers than for very sensitive readers. In 12 rules, many things stand out as a perception he has through his experience of the world, which I think should be taken with skepticism. This is my personal opinion, because I have seen ardent supporters of Peterson who are not willing to take words against him.
I know. It`s just an effort, I`m not ready to release something that isn`t my professional writing. It`s just a subreddit. But despite Tolstoy`s dark worldview, and no matter how much you have suffered or how cruel and unjust you find life, you should not blame the world. I`m a UC Berkeley graduate, liberal, gen-Xer, and feminist, so JBP is my ideological “enemy,” but I`ve drawn more than 12 rules than any other book (and I`m an avid reader) in my life. There was a deep “before” and “after” in my life that revolved mainly around his insightful advice to “make nothing worse.” I read it last year and although it sheds a whole new light on many of the things we see in life. If someone read “Man`s Search for Meaning,” I thought it was better than that, although I shouldn`t compare the two. I would suggest reading this later. I`m usually not a fan of Jordan Peterson because I think he tends to imbue very basic life advice with disgusting and highly pseudo-scientific right-wing views. Another interesting thing is that I started noticing all the rules in the real world. For example, look at footage of Conor Mcgregor walking through UFC events to see how Rule 1 is taken to the extreme, haha. He claims to be a top lobster, whether he suffers a defeat or a victory.
Another example is my sister`s parenting methods. She refuses to discipline her youngest daughter or allow her husband to do so. As a result, she`s a child`s monster if she wants to be, and my sister openly said the other day that she didn`t even want to pick her up from daycare. She continued to talk about her own daughter as if she didn`t love her because she loves her (although she obviously loves her). One of the side effects of seeing the world as a chasm of despair is that it is particularly easy to justify a life based on immediate pleasures that make it more bearable. Plus, if it makes you happy, it can`t be that bad, right? This is the logic behind binge eating and alcohol use, drug use, sexual debauchery and other self-injurious behaviors. For example, let`s say you review the past year and find that you haven`t been as productive at work as some of your co-workers. You might immediately feel like a total failure.
But if you had to zoom out and look at every aspect of your life, you might find that you`ve made real improvements in your family life. I am writing this review as a fan and “follower” of Jordan Peterson. Personally, his words have helped me in my own life and I will not deny that they have caused a marketable change in his overall quality, I am sure that the 12 rules of life are good. Quite simple and anyone can really do it. I enjoyed this book (I`m in chapter 9) and I find useful information to apply to my life. Don`t get me wrong. Lessons are not the reason this book is garbage. It is the presentation that is the problem.
This is the first time I`ve tried to read a self-help book (except for one a long time ago on “Getting a Man,” but I didn`t agree with this one at all). I was expecting a lot of in-depth explanations for these particular books, but the author talks over and over again about, which isn`t even very important and I am. AGH! My attention span is either that of a peanut, or this book is TERRIBLY boring and uninteresting. I read the rules of 2/12. In the first, he spends most of his time talking about GOD DAMN LOBSTERS to establish a correlation between standing and humans: both cause serotonin and self-confidence. ok look. If you use an analogy or metaphor, that`s fine! but if you spend 20/30 pages talking about those little insignificant details about lobster?!?!!?!? I didn`t buy this book to learn more about LOBSTERS MAN idc if you like them! TL;DR: THE GUY NEVER GETS TO THE SCREWED POINT!!! Well, he does, but the path he takes to get there is long, boring and useless! I went on YouTube to see if there were summaries for these lessons and honestly, I got more than a 10-minute summary than an HOUR or careful reading. WHY COULDN`T YOU BE SO CONCISE IN THE BOOK??? Long books are not the same as good books. this guy is like a SUCKS ASS writer. he.fucking.puts.smily.faces.
LITTLE FACES!!!!! MAN! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I`m sorry if it sounded violent/mean, but I had to drop the air. Anyway, please let me know your thoughts. I need the point of view of others. If there`s anything I could POSSIBLY miss in this book that I can`t get from YouTube, let me know. and also gives me your general thoughts. Do all self-help books squeak so badly or is my attention span only short? Honestly, Meh.
