Other Personal Concerns ALLEAPS` 4th Annual Zombie Fun Run – all funds raised go to training law enforcement officers, dispatchers, conservation officers and correctional officers to provide the peer support their Alabama counterparts needed. Since October 2017, ALEA and ALLEAPS have been working hand in hand to develop a high-quality peer support program, with the aim of assisting law enforcement officers at a personal and professional event. All peer support communications are privileged and confidential according to Alabama Statue 36-21-14. In partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Alabama Law Enforcement Alliance for Peer Support (ALLEAPS) is pleased to announce the activation of a toll-free peer support phone number.

The call is answered 24/7,365 by ALEA Central Dispatch, resulting in the activation of peer support staff. Due to the weather and most of the law enforcement resources we had put in place for the Florida race, we are postponing the zombie hunt. We will hold a board meeting to see when it is postponed. Minister Taylor and his leadership worked diligently with ALLEAPS to develop and deliver peer support training at the Trooper and SBI Agent Academy. The common goal is to establish Alabama peer support as the standard of care for peer support for law enforcement officers. We are first responders like you. We are here to respond and help you cope with the physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral and spiritual effects of work-related stress. You are not alone! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

WHY WE DO THIS We do this because it is necessary and it makes sense. We do this because we have seen that it helps other first responders. We do it because it works! It`s no secret that the fire department imposes unique stressors on firefighters. Despite low pay, long working hours and no “normal” life on holidays and weekends, we report to work as planned, as there will always be medical emergencies, wrecks and fires. Only a firefighter understands that it`s us, not just what we do. We are really 24/7. The bottom line is that what makes us good at our work can have detrimental consequences for the rest of our lives. We are taught to “keep everything in” from day one at the academy, to protect our families, because society simply does not understand our culture and because they are simply not the “firefighters” to show emotions. Every day, firefighters face highly stressful events – situations that have the potential to evoke exceptionally strong emotions that have the potential to affect our ability to function, whether at the crime scene or later.

Shootings, road accidents, fires, injured victims (especially children), deaths, suicides, sudden health problems and the countless tragic events we experience every day are examples of critical incidents. But sometimes our “survival techniques” are self-destructive. But of course, if you do something wrong, you should be afraid, because they have the power to punish you. They are God`s servants sent for the purpose of punishing those who do the wrong thing.
